April 2022 | Commenting Improvements
This release applies to Page, Email, and Popup builders and is available for Core plans and above.
Summary
We have released several improvements to our commenting features:
- Copy and Paste Text. Users may now select comment text and paste it as content on the builder stage.
-
Improved Thread Management. We've made four improvements here, as follows:
- Users may reopen a resolved thread by adding a new comment.
- A comment preview is triggered by hovering on a comment icon on the stage
- The row where a thread is posted is automatically highlighted on the stage.
- Threads can be expanded with a single click.
- Real-time Notifications. Comments made during co-editing systems trigger UI notifications available immediately to other users.
Description of Changes
Copy and Paste Text
Saved comment text may now be selected, copied, and pasted into any text field on the builder stage.
Reason for Change
This feature improves the collaboration process by allowing the selection and copying of comment text. Suggesting and replacing text content is now much more straightforward.
Improved Thread Management
As shown below, we've made four improvements to the comment thread experience.
Users may reopen a resolved thread by adding a new comment.
A comment preview is triggered by hovering on a comment icon on the stage.
In addition to the changes shown above, we've made the following improvements:
- The row where a thread is posted is automatically highlighted on the stage.
- Threads can be expanded with a single click.
Reason for Change
These changes streamline the commenting user experience. Thread management is now faster and more intuitive.
Real-time Notifications
Note: this feature is only available for applications on the Superpowers plan that have co-editing enabled.
When a user creates a comment during a co-editing session, a blue notification dialog will appear. This notification will appear for all users in the same session. These notifications can be styled using custom CSS.
Reason for Change
This feature ensures that comments cannot be lost due to a race condition.
Implementation
The new features are available automatically if you have commenting enabled. No action is required to update templates with existing comments. This update is fully backward compatible.
If you need to enable commenting, log in to the Developer Portal and go to Dashboard > Application details > Application configuration. Scroll down to Services and toggle on Enable commenting features as shown below.
