January 2022 | Row Background Video
Summary
This update applies to all paid Beefree SDK plans. This feature is available for Page Builder and Popup Builder.
We've added a new feature to support background video in Rows.
This feature provides layering possibilities beyond our standard Video content block. For example, Text or Button content blocks may now be placed in a row with a video background. This allows for a more robust and attractive use of video content within your designs.
Valid video content sources for background rows are as follows:
- Self-hosted URLs
- YouTube or Vimeo URLs
- File Manager uploads of:

Description of Changes
Row Background Video
Users may now select a video background for use in rows. The effect achieved should be similar to the image below.
When a row is selected within the builder stage, a background video option is now available in the sidebar.
Auto-play is not supported on all devices, mobile platforms in particular. In this case, only the first frame of the video will display. This typically only happens when a device is running in a power-save mode.
Video Source Support
There are four valid sources for row background video content. All videos will auto-play looped and muted without controls by default. Bandwidth usage costs and traffic monitoring will vary depending on host application configuration. If you are using a custom file system or custom AWS S3 bucket, these considerations will be up to your provider. If you are using our CDN, please be aware that usage charges may apply.
Self-hosted URLs. You may paste in a URL for any self-hosted MP4 formatted video file. In this case, the hosting platform manages bandwidth usage costs and traffic monitoring.
YouTube or Vimeo URLs. You may paste in a URL for any public YouTube or Vimeo file. In this case, bandwidth usage is free and traffic monitoring tools are built-in.
File Manager uploads via the "Change video" button. Previously uploaded content can also be searched and inserted as needed. Three file upload options are available, as shown below.
Direct Upload. MP4 formatted files may be directly uploaded from disk. The button highlighted below activates your operating system's file browser.
Import. MP4 formatted files may be imported from any supported third-party site. Files are uploaded to CDN storage. The button highlighted below activates the import modal.
Search free videos. The button highlighted below activates a search modal for free stock video libraries provided by Pixabay and Pexels.
- By default, File Manager generally attempts to display free video selections that do not exceed 2-3 MB for a ~30-second video. This process is intended to minimize storage costs, but usage charges may still apply.
Implementation
Administrative host application configuration is necessary to make full use of this feature. See the Docs links below for further information.
- Add Row Background Video to Services options
- Configure Advanced Permissions for the new widget
- Configure Tracking Message Changes for the new events
Once the host application is ready, you may use the three configuration options available for this feature in the Developer Portal.
First, you may log in and toggle on “Enable row background video widget”, as shown below. You may also toggle "Enable video picker ('Change Video' button) in video widget" to allow users to upload videos.
You may also optionally toggle on "Enable free stock videos inside the file manager, as shown below. This allows users to access free stock video libraries provided by Pixabay and Pexels.
